Decide what works offline, task by task

“Works offline” is rarely all or nothing. Two of our products draw the line in specific places, and both say where it is.

Finemy: add an expense anywhere

An expense added without signal is saved on the phone and sent automatically when the connection returns. Offline, Finemy also shows recently loaded data.

Changing categories, the budget or settings needs a connection. Finemy states this limit in its own FAQ.

Brief Builder: local briefs offline, cloud briefs online

Briefs kept on the device work offline once the app has loaded. Briefs kept in the optional cloud storage need a connection; there is no offline editing of cloud briefs.

Because local briefs live only in the browser that created them, the briefs list shows a permanent reminder to back them up.

Where both draw the line

In both products, the everyday task works offline: logging an expense, working on a brief on your own device. Changes to things held elsewhere, such as account settings or briefs in the cloud, wait for a connection.

What we take from it

Decide offline support per task rather than per product, start with the task people do most often, and write the limit down where people will see it.
